X-ELIO has brought its 14MW Funaki solar plant online in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, supporting Japan’s net-zero ambitions and Amazon’s decarbonisation targets.
The photovoltaic facility, built on the site of a former golf course, is expected to generate over 17,200MWh of clean electricity annually.
Amazon has secured 100% of the plant’s output under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Luis Perezagua, country manager for X-ELIO in Japan, said: “The launch of the Funaki plant reinforces our long-standing presence in Japan and our role in driving forward its energy transition. Beyond energy generation, we remain committed to delivering value to the communities around our projects.”
X-ELIO has already built 393MW of solar capacity in Japan and holds a development pipeline of 396MW, including PV and battery storage.
The company also donated emergency response equipment to Ube city, including a power generator and tents, as part of its community plan initiative.
