Polish renewable energy company R Power has announced plans to develop a photovoltaic solar farm in north-west Romania.
The Lazuri solar park, with a capacity of 55MWp, will be located in Satu Mare County.
The project will be connected to the national grid via a newly constructed 110kV loop-in/loop-out switching station integrated into the existing Vetiș-Abator overhead line.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with energisation expected in Q3 2026. Last year, the project won in Romania’s renewables auction, securing a 15-year power contract.
R Power vice president Katarzyna Suchcicka said: “This project not only supports Romania’s ambitious renewable energy targets but also marks a strategic milestone in strengthening our presence in key Eastern European markets.
“Our 55MWp solar farm will generate approximately 70GWh of clean electricity annually – enough to power over 48,000 households and avoid nearly 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.”
Lazuri is one of four R Power projects in Romania that won 15-year Contracts for Difference (CfD) in the local auction, together totalling 85MWp.
Previously, the company secured €12.4m in project financing from BGK for 23MWp of PV, and €15m in non-reimbursable grants from Romania’s Ministry of Energy for its first energy storage facility.
