BLC Energy has submitted applications for two solar and battery storage projects in Fife and Angus totalling 100MW of generation and 100MW of storage.
The Perthshire-based developer, in partnership with TRIO Power, has filed Section 36 applications for the West Springfield Solar and BESS near Cupar and the Cossans Solar and BESS near Forfar.
The projects will combine large-scale solar arrays with battery systems designed to store excess power and release it during peak demand periods.
Neil Lindsay, managing director of BLC Energy, said the two sites could supply electricity to the equivalent of 29,000 homes annually.
“We’ve now submitted 200MW of projects into the Scottish planning system, with another 200MW planned before the end of the year,” he said.
“If West Springfield gains consent, we could start construction by 2026 and produce electricity by 2027.”
He added that the Cossans project could connect before 2030, subject to the grid reform process.
Each site includes a community benefit fund of £500 per installed MW per year, totalling around £1.3m over 40 years across both locations.
“We believe the communities around these sites should decide how the money is best spent,” said Lindsay.
TRIO Power, the owner of both projects, is backed by the Octopus Renewable Infrastructure Trust and managed by Octopus Energy Generation.
