Cambridge Power has been granted planning permission for a 50MW solar farm in Bedfordshire.
Bedford Borough Council approved the plans for Cobholden Solar Farm, which will be located near Staploe.
In addition to the solar panels and associated infrastructure, the application includes significant ecological and landscape enhancement such as tree and scrub planting, hedgerow enhancement, and wildflower areas.
Overall, the scheme will deliver over 100% net increase in the biodiversity of the land, Cambridge Power said.
The solar park will be capable of generating up to 49.9MW of clean, low-cost renewable electricity.
Chairman of Cambridge Power Richard Stanton said: “We are delighted to secure permission, under delegated powers, for this solar farm from Bedford Borough Council.
“The planning permission was granted following extensive consultation with local residents and stakeholders, ensuring that the project meets the highest standards of environmental and community considerations.”
The green light for Cobholden Solar Farm comes after Cambridge Power’s Thorney Eco-hub project, a 49.9MW solar and 50MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Peterborough, was approved last summer.
The Cobholden scheme represents the 13th successful planning approval for Cambridge Power since 2019, bringing the total capacity of consented projects to over 750MW.
