Planning permission has been granted on appeal for the 49,900KW Carr Farm Solar near Tickton, East Riding of Yorkshire.
The site, located 1.6km east of Beverley, will generate enough electricity to supply around 15000 homes annually, according to joint venture partners BOOM Power and Albanwise Synergy.
The appeal centred on the project’s visual impact on the local countryside, including cumulative effects from nearby solar farms.
The planning inspector concluded that while moderate harm to local character would occur, it would be outweighed by the development’s climate and environmental benefits.
Carr Farm Solar will contribute to East Riding Council’s Net Zero by 2050 goal and deliver biodiversity net gains of 166.47% in area habitat units and 88.68% in hedgerow units.
The developers said the project will also provide economic benefits through local construction opportunities and ongoing business rates.
Mark Hogan, founder of BOOM Power, said: “We are delighted to be in joint venture with Albanwise Synergy on Carr Farm Solar Farm, marking a crucial advancement in expanding clean energy infrastructure in the region.
“This project reinforces the importance of renewable energy in meeting the UK’s ambitious climate targets, while thoughtfully addressing environmental and community concerns.”
Paul Hanson, chief executive of Albanwise Synergy, said: “This successful appeal is a testament to the strong and collaborative joint venture between BOOM Power and Albanwise Synergy.
“We are proud to be delivering a project that not only generates significant clean energy but also enhances biodiversity and benefits the local economy.”
The developers said the project complies with national and local policy on renewable energy and will help advance the UK’s energy transition.
