EnBW has connected three solar parks to the grid in Germany.

The two solar parks in Rosenberg and one plant in Hardheim have a total capacity of 24.2MW and are now fully operational.

Of the Rosenberg facilities, one has an installed capacity of 8.1MW, while the other is 5.2MW.

The largest of the three parks is the Hardheim plant (pictured), with a capacity of around 10.9MW.

The combined output of the three solar parks is enough to meet the electricity needs of around 9800 households.

The construction of the three facilities took about six months to complete.

EnBW spokesman Stefan Wresch said: “The big challenge with these projects was that the grid connection is about 14 kilometres away in the municipality of Buchen.

“Viewed on its own, none of the projects would have been economically feasible as a result.

“But the fact that we were able to combine the cable route for the three projects reduces the costs for each individual project.”

Measures were also put in place to promote biodiversity and support conservation.

The solar plants are expected to save around 19,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
