European Energy has connected a new solar farm to the UK grid.
The 20.9MW Marksbury solar project (pictured) can produce 22.3GWh of renewable electricity annually.
Located in Somerset near Bath, the solar farm includes designated areas for tree planting to support local biodiversity and wildlife.
Vice president and head of UK and Ireland at European Energy Mark Evans said: “The successful grid connection of the Marksbury solar farm represents a major step forward in supporting the UK’s transition to clean energy.
“This project highlights the power of collaboration in bringing more renewable electricity to the grid, contributing to long-term sustainability goals.”
AlphaReal, a specialist real assets investment manager, acquired the solar farm in 2024, with European Energy retained as the project’s asset manager.
The solar farm will deliver its electricity to Asahi UK through a 10-year power purchase agreement.
European Energy’s executive vice president and head of project development Thorvald Spanggaard said: “With our diverse international portfolio of renewable assets, we can deliver value to key stakeholders around the globe regarding affordable renewable electricity.
“There is a strong demand for affordable renewable energy in the United Kingdom, so this is one of the markets we are strongly invested in.”
