Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has commissioned Masrik-1, the largest photovoltaic plant in Armenia.
The Masrik-1 plant (pictured), with a capacity of 62MWdc (55MWac), will prevent the emission of more than 54,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and supply electricity to more than 21,400 homes in Armenia.
The project has been funded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Union and Ameriabank, and built in collaboration with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC).
The power generated will be distributed through the national grid, under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Electrical Networks of Armenia CJSC (ENA).
Renewable energy company FRV, part of Jameel Energy, said the Masrik-1 photovoltaic plant is its first PV project in Armenia.
Tristán Higuero, chief business development officer at FRV, said: “The commissioning of the Masrik-1 plant reinforces our position as a leader in renewable energy and highlights the essential role FRV plays in the decarbonisation of the global energy sector.
“Armenia has huge potential in renewable energy and we are proud to contribute to its energy development and a more sustainable future.”
