Invenergy has brought the 250MW Fairbanks Solar Energy Center in Sullivan County, Indiana into commercial operation.
The company developed and built the facility, which has now been acquired by Northern Indiana Public Service Company.
Fairbanks Solar can power over 50,000 homes and supported nearly 275 local construction jobs.
Invenergy Services will operate and maintain the site, employing four full-time staff and investing more than $125m in the local community over the project’s lifespan.
“We’re proud to have partnered with NIPSCO and the local community to bring Fairbanks Solar online,” said Michael Kaplan, senior vice president of development at Invenergy.
“Reliable and cost-effective power sources are essential to Indiana’s energy future,” said NIPSCO president Vince Parisi.
Sullivan County commissioner Bob Davis said Invenergy’s projects help fund county services and support local development.
Fairbanks Solar is Invenergy’s second solar facility in Indiana, and one of several projects the company is developing in the state.
