Quanta Energy will build solar farms for Stellantis with a total capacity of almost 58MW.
The automotive company, owner of brands such as Citroën, Fiat and Peugeot, has chosen Quanta Energy to support the decarbonisation of its facilities in Poland.
The project includes the construction of photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of almost 58MW, which will supply energy to four Stellantis production plants in Gliwice, Skoczów and two in Tychy.
Approximately 94,300 photovoltaic modules will be used to build the farms, which will cover almost 54 hectares of land, which corresponds to an area of 3333 volleyball courts.
Chief executive of Quanta Energy Piotr Grzybczak said: “We are proud to partner with Stellantis on this strategic project.
“Together, we set the course and prove how innovation and responsibility shape the automotive industry.
“Using our knowledge and experience, we support Stellantis in achieving its sustainability goals.”
The first of the solar farms was built and commissioned three months ahead of schedule.
Since the end of January, the system has been operating and powering the Stellantis power unit factory in Tychy.
The investment has now moved to the next stage, which will include the construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) as well as a car port.
Director of the plant in Tychy Sławomir Czernecki said: “Thanks to this investment, the Polish Stellantis plants are becoming more energy independent and at the same time environmentally friendly.
“Reducing carbon dioxide emissions, increasing the security of energy supply and reducing operating costs are its measurable benefits.
“They cannot be overestimated in the dynamically changing business environment and in the face of growing international competition.”
The amount of electricity generated by the farms built for Stellantis by Quanta Energy would be enough to power almost 20,000 households in Poland annually.
