TotalEnergies has inaugurated its largest solar power plant in Europe, near Seville, Spain.
The plant is composed of five projects with a total installed capacity of 263MW.
The majority of the electricity generated will be sold through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and the rest will be sold on the wholesale market.
Declared of Strategic Interest by the Junta de Andalucia, the installation of the 400,000 bifacial solar panels with trackers has provided significant support to the local economy, involving 14 companies, more than half of which are Sevillian, and generating 800 direct and indirect jobs.
“We are very grateful to the Spanish authorities at the regional and national levels for their support for this solar project which contributes to Spain’s ambition to reach 80% renewable energy in its mix by 2030,” said Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President, Renewables at TotalEnergies.
“With our 1,700 employees in Spain, we are building a competitive portfolio of integrated power businesses that combines renewables and flexible gas-fired power plants to provide 24-hour low-carbon energy to our customers.
“We are proud to be the 4th largest supplier of electricity, gas and related services in Spain, where we have more than 2 million private and professional customers.”
